New Delhi, India, March 09, 2007 - The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T.R. Baalu has approved road improvement works in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
New Delhi, India, March 07, 2007 - A request has been received from Government of Tamil Nadu for development of Colachel Port as a Major Port. Preparation of a Techno-Economic Feasibility and Detailed Project Reports as well as Environmental Impact Assessment Studies for this project have been undertaken.
New Delhi, December 12, 2006 - The Government has plans for the development of the Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy Airports in Tamil Nadu. This information was given by Shri Praful Patel, Minister for Civil Aviation in the Parliament today.
Chennai, October 8, 2006 : Real estate giant DLF plans to invest $2.1 billion in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu on real estate and infrastructure projects. The investment would go towards development of Special Economic Zones, integrated townships, hotels and convention centres.
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) has found takers for semi-developed plots in Navalpattu that have been unsold for 22 years. Over 1,000 plots between 338 to 430 sq.ft. were recently auctioned.
Dharmapuri District is to see a 1,000-acre industrial estate to be developed by SIPCOT. The estate is to house industries as diverse as software, hardware, textiles, agro-processing, an metals.
The Tamil Nadu govt is planning to acquire 30,000 acres of land for a satellite township in the outskirts of Chennai. According to the Chief Minister, Mr. Karunanidhi, land for the town has already been identified and will be purchased at the prevailing market rate. The sprawling estate is located near Chennai, south of the Vandalur-Kelambakkam road. Currently only 13,000 families inhabit the proposed site area.
The Tamil Nadu Govt. is planning to acquire 2,000 acres of land to meet the expansion of the industrial parks of SIPCOT at Sriperumbudur and Oragadam. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi made this announcement in the State Assembly earlier this week. The Oragadam industrial park will be the site of a Special Economic Zone catering to the manufacture of automobile components.
The Komarapalayam Hi-Tech Weaving Park (KHWP) project was launched at Korapaliyur by the Union Minister of State for Textiles, Mr E.V.K.S. Elangovan. According to the minister the central government would consider setting up around 250 textile parks across the country if the current lot of 26 textile park projects prove successful. The KHWP will receive Rs.14 crore as investment subsidy from the centre.
The Tiruchirapalli city corporation plans to allocate 50 acres of land near Panchapur on the Madurai highway for the development of an IT Park. This follows increasing interest in developing IT infrastructure in Tier II cities in India. While the corporations investment would be in the cost of land, it could hope to gain a significant share of the profits from the real estate development.
Angad Paul, son of prominent NRI Lord Swraj Paul, is planning a new car accessories manufacturing unit near Sriperumbudur on a 125 acre site. The initiative would entail an investment of Rs. 300 crore and create employment for over 2,000 people. Angad Paul has held preliminary discussions with the TN government regarding this project.
A Portuguese company, Gruppo Investor, has set up a 100% export subsidiary Calsea Footwear with a new factory in Kaveripakkam, Vellore District, near Chennai. The factory has a capacity of 4,500 pairs of shoes a day. Commercial production is expected to start in October.
RR Industries is to set up a 2.2 million sq ft IT park, RR Skyline, in the Ambattur industrial estate in Chennai. The IT park is planned on a 10 acre plot and is expected to fetch a lease rental of Rs. 50 per sq ft. The entire investment of Rs. 510 crore is to be financed by a mixture of debt (Rs. 275 crore) and equity (Rs. 160 crore). The project is slated to be completed by September 2007. RR Industries has previously developed IT facilities in the Guindy Industrial Estate in Chennai.
