Chennai, India, January 21, 2008 - The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot) is to construct over 50,000 sq ft of space at the Tirunelveli IT SEZ by June this year at a cost of Rs 15 crore. The Tamil Nadu government is keen to develop smaller cities like Tirunelveli, Salem, Madurai as IT destinations to leverage the talent pool available there.

Elcot expects the IT Park will generate over 100,000 jobs. Some leading IT companies have already taken up land in the IT Park.

According to State IT secretary, Dr C. Chandramouli, the vision of the government is to take the State's share of the industry from 14% to 25% by 2011 and for this to happen, IT needs to be taken to every district.
