Progress of national highway works in North East | INRnews

New Delhi, India, October 02, 2007 - The progress of execution of National Highway Works and the works relating to improvement of other roads approved by the Centre under various schemes and programmes of the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways was reviewed at a meeting held at Guwahati recently. The meeting was chaired by the Secretary (Road Transport & Highways) Shri Brahm Dutt and attended by the Commissioners and Secretaries of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. The Chief Engineers of the PWDs of the States and officials from the Border Roads organization (BRO) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) also attended the meeting.

East-West corridor to be substantially completed by 2009 | INRnews

New Delhi, India, September 11, 2007 - The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T.R. Baalu has said that the East-West Corridor which, passes through the States of Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat, is likely to be substantially completed by 2009. Speaking at the Parliamentary Consultative Committee Meeting of the Ministry, Thiru T.R. Baalu said that on completion, this Corridor would open up new opportunities for the people residing in these States and lead to all round economic development of these States. The subject of the today’s Consultative Committee Meeting was the progress of work on the East West Corridor.

Road improvement works in Assam approved

New Delhi, October 09, 2006 : The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T. R. Baalu has approved in-principle road improvement works in Assam to the tune of Rs.111.81 crore. The funds will be used to strengthen and Widen several NH stretches in the State of Assam under Phase ‘A’ of Special Accelerated Road Development Programme – North East (SARDP-NE).

GoI to support infrastructure development in Tripura and Nagaland

Agartala, September 22, 2006: States in the northeast including Tripura and Nagaland have sought Central support for development of infrastructure in their states.  In response, New Delhi has come up with a grant of Rs.2600 crore for the development of Agartala and Kohima cities.  The Tripura and Nagaland governments have been asked to submit a detailed project report for review by the Urban Development Ministry. Tripura alone is to get a grant of Rs.1600 crore out of the total grant from GOI.
