BT sets up Global Operations Centre in Gurgaon, India | INRNews

Gurgaon, India, March 25, 2008 - BT today announced the opening of its Global Operations Centre at Gurgaon, India, in presence of Sir Mike Rake, Chairman, BT Group and Ben Verwaayen, CEO - BT Group among other BT executives.

The Global Operations Centre will employ up to 300 highly skilled professionals who will run systems and processes for the various BT lines of business in addition to providing functional support to Group functions such as Procurement, Legal, Finance & HR.

Speaking at the opening, Ben Verwaayen, said, “India is a critical market for our global growth strategy. It has a highly skilled workforce, supportive government, and global capabilities. Only companies who recognise and harvest talent on a global basis will achieve a new level of competitive advantage.”

He further added, "BT has always sought to find the best talent wherever in the world it may be. We have been working successfully in India for many years with partners who handle some of our non-core but mission critical activities".

This centre is part of BT's global sourcing strategy where BT builds global centres of excellence in various geographies, according to local presence of talent and expertise.

Alongside centres based in Hungary, Brazil and China, BT's increasing presence in Gurgaon is designed to meet BT's current and future resourcing needs.

BT accounts for 2 per cent of India’s $ 50 billion IT and BPO exports and is planning to source more over the years.
