CII welcomes TN's proposal for Chennai-Bangalore industrial corridor | INRnews

Chennai, India, November 01, 2007 - Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tamil Nadu State Council has welcomed today Tamil Nadu Chief Minister,  Dr Kalaignar M Karunanidhi’s proposal to the Prime Minister to announce the development of the Chennai-Bangalore industrial corridor as an Industrial Corridor of Excellence on the lines of the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor.

In a statement issued today, Mr Gopal Srinivasan, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu State Council,  said that the Chennai Bangalore Industrial Corridor would go a long way in tapping the potential of the two States to attract investment and help creation of skilled workforce. The establishment of such an intra-state corridor would ensure inclusive, sustainable and balanced regional growth.

Under the CII City Connect program, CII has held several discussions with the senior officials of the Tamil Nadu Government to develop a new
Chennai - Bangalore Industrial Corridor. Mr Srinivasan felt that the request from the Chief Minister to the Indian Prime Minister underscores the importance given by the State Government to the CII proposal.

He said CII has taken several initiatives to strengthen cooperation among the southern region states in creating collective brands, infrastructure and policies for industry verticals such as tourism and agriculture. One of its recent initiative is to expedite infrastructure development and promotion of a tourism corridor comprising historical, spiritual, ecological, environmental tourism destinations of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Srinivasan said that intra-state corridors also help facilitate convergence of industry verticals. He mentioned that the Bangalore-Chennai corridor would give the much needed impetus to niche areas and help in the promotion of engineering services in a big way apart from effectively leveraging the strengths of the IT & electronics industry in South India.
