Work has begun on a new 3-lane bridge adjoining the old Ghaggar bridge on NH21 that connects Chandigarh with Delhi, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Pile testing of the bridge has started and the bridge is expected to be completed in less than two years.
A move that should ideally be followed in all metros and leading Indian cities, to prepare a land inventory, has been undertaken successfully in Chandigarh.
Real estate transactions have fallen significantly since April. Registrations in Panchkula have fallen from 250 per month at the start of the year to around 25 per month now. This follows a steep increase in collector rates from Rs.4,000 per square metre to Rs.15,000 per square metre and also a decision by the government to stop registrations based on a general power-of-attorney. Real estate prices have also fallen from Rs 3,300/sq ft last year to less than Rs 2,700/sq ft now.
