Land allotted to pharma companies for SEZ in Andhra Pradesh | INRnews

Hyderabad, November 22, 2006 : Two pharamceutical companies, Aurobindo Pharma and Hetero Drugs have been allotted 75 acres of land each to be the anchor tenants of a proposed formulations SEZ at Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.  The two companies will invest Rs. 200 crores to set up export oriented facilities with an employment potential of 2,000.

Govt. To Set Up `Medical Parks’ To Make Health Equipment | INRnews

Samsung to build $100 million plant in Sriperumbudur, Chennai | INRnews

Chennai, November 11, 2006 : Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd., today announced that it has completed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with the Government of Tamil Nadu, India to set up a second manufacturing complex in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, India to cater to the fast growing requirements for the company’s consumer electronics products in India. The project could mean an investment of up to US$ 100 Million over a five-year time frame starting from 2007.

Ashok Leyland to set up auto manufacturing unit in Pant Nagar, Uttaranchal | INRnews

Chennai, November 7, 2006 : Hinduja Group flagship Ashok Leyland announced its plans to set up a vehicle manufacturing unit in Uttaranchal. An investment of over Rs 1,000 crores will create vehicle assembly and cab facility to produce 25,000 vehicles annually, which will be stepped to 40,000 vehicles eventually. About 200 acres of land has been identified in Pant Nagar for this purpose. The unit will create employment for 3,000 people.

Flextronics launches industrial park in Chennai | INRnews

Chennai, November 04, 2006 - Flextronics (NASDAQ: FLEX), a Singapore-based contract electronics manufacturer, announced that it has expanded its presence in India through the first phase completion of its planned eight million square foot industrial park in Chennai. This was celebrated in an inauguration ceremony held at Sriperumbudur attended by the Indian Prime Minister and other dignitaries. Flextronics is set to invest USD 200 million in the first phase of its operations at industrial park at Sriperumbudur near Chennai. The investment includes USD 140 million equipment, with a capacity to rollout one million handsets per month.

Omaxe to set up township in Uttaranchal

Dehra Dun, October 17, 2006 : Delhi-based real estate developer Omaxe Ltd is to set up a township in Uttaranchal at a cost of Rs.500 crore. 2,200 residential flats are to come up on 46 acres of land of the Omaxe Riviera. The flats will range from 2-4 bedrooms. The township will have facilities such as a club, swimming pool, food-court, multiplex and mall.

Toyota Kirloskar may set up second plant in Karnataka

Hyundai and suppliers to invest $1.5 billion in India

New Delhi, September 25, 2006: Carmaker Hyundai Motor Co announced significant expansion plans in India. The company plans to invest over $900 million to beef up its facilities in the country and expects its affiliates and suppliers to invest close to $600 million in addition. The investment would go towards a car, engine, transmission plant and an R&D Centre.

West Bengal to offer land to CPRI for laboratory

Kolkata, September 22, 2006: The West Bengal government is likely to allot a 3-acre plot near Kolkata to the Bangalore-based Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), for setting up a power equipment-testing laboratory, which is presently operating in a WSEB property. The West Bengal Power ministry has requested CPRI to put in a formal application to the state government for the land and the land is likely to be allotted in Rajarhat. This laboratory will be set on a similar scale as the major ones that are in operation at Bangalore, Bhopal and Hyderabad.  Future investment on this power equipment infrastructure would be 100-150 crores.

Nokia telecom SEZ to be set up in Sriperumbudur, Chennai

An automobile and auto components industry SEZ in Jharkhand has been notified. The Adityapur SEZ is being developed by the Adityapur industrial area development authority with Gammon and Jusco. The SEZ is is to come up on 36 hectares of land in the Saraikela Kharsawan district of Jharkhand.

Hindustan Motors land sale approved by West Bengal govt

The State Government has cleared Hindustan Motors' request for sale/development of 314 acres of land at HM's Uttarpara plant in West Bengal. The company sees opportunity to set up a township comprising residential, IT Parks and Auto-ancillary parks.

Sale proceeds would also help the company financially in its plans to revive the plant.

Tata to set up Electro-Metallurgical SEZ in Orissa

The Tata Group plans to set up an SEZ focused on the Electro-Metallurgical business in over 2,500 acres of land that it owns in Gopalpur, Orissa.  the focus of the Gopalpur SEZ would be on downstream steel and aluminium projects, titanium dioxide ancillaries and processing of cold-rolled steel sheets.

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to set up SEZ

A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) with sole focus on steel production with ancillary and downstream units may be set up by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd at Visakhapatnam. The aim is to promote industrialisation in the district and improve employment opportunities in the region.

The expansion of the plant at a cost of Rs.8600 crores is scheduled for completion in 2009.

Over 10 acres of land allotted to auto ancillary unit in Jharkhand

The Jharkhand govt has moved to allot 10.09 acres of land in Jamshedpur for Steel Strips Wheels Ltd. An auto ancillary company, it will set up a commercial vehicle wheel plant. Production is targeted at meeting Tata Motors' increased demand for MCV and HCV wheels. 

Plans for a joint venture company at Jamshedpur to cater to Tata Motors' demand and use port facilities nearby had been approved two years ago. The shares of the company closed at Rs.140 at the BSE, moving up by 0.29%.

Karnataka may get a second Toyota car plant

Toyota considers India as a priority market. It also plans to roll out a small car for the Indian market although the time frame is uncertain. However, the car giant is now close to finalising a deal to set up its second car plant in Karnataka. The state ranks high in preference because housing a second plant will reduce costs considerably for Toyota.

Rs.800 Crore pellet plant in Orissa on 100 acres of land

A pellet plant with an annual production of 8-million tonnes will be set up by Essar Global, the overseas investment arm of the Essar Group. The pellet plant will require an investment of Rs.800 crores and will be a part of Essar's integrated steel unit, costing a total of Rs.10,700 crores.

Rs.125 crore textile park in Tamil Nadu

The Komarapalayam Hi-Tech Weaving Park (KHWP) project was launched at Korapaliyur by the Union Minister of State for Textiles, Mr E.V.K.S. Elangovan. According to the minister the central government would consider setting up around 250 textile parks across the country if the current lot of 26 textile park projects prove successful. The KHWP will receive Rs.14 crore as investment subsidy from the centre.

West Bengal to provide free land for plastics industry

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has indicated that the state government is willing to provide between 400 to 500 acres of land free for setting up of plastics industry in Midnapore, Jalpaiguri and Coochbihar districts. Companies establishing in Midnapore could cater to the Bihar and Jharkhand markets, while those in Jalpaiguri and Coochbihar could target North-east markets. He made this comment at a workshop on Schemes and Programmes for Development of Micro and Small Scale Industries.

Rs 300 crore car accessories unit to be set up near Sriperumbudur

Angad Paul, son of prominent NRI Lord Swraj Paul, is planning a new car accessories manufacturing unit near Sriperumbudur on a 125 acre site. The initiative would entail an investment of Rs. 300 crore and create employment for over 2,000 people. Angad Paul has held preliminary discussions with the TN government regarding this project.

 

Century Textiles and Industries to set up greenfield ventures

Century Textiles and Industries is to set up a new textile mill in Jhagadia, Bharuch district of Gujarat as a greenfield venture. Investment of Rs. 600 crore for this project will help establish capacity of 30 million metres of fabric annually.

Portuguese company sets up facility near Chennai

A Portuguese company, Gruppo Investor, has set up a 100% export subsidiary Calsea Footwear with a new factory in Kaveripakkam, Vellore District, near Chennai. The factory has a capacity of 4,500 pairs of shoes a day. Commercial production is expected to start in October.

Pharmaceutical and Engineering SEZs to come up near Ahmedabad

Dishman Pharma plans to develop two special economic zones (SEZ) at Sanand near Ahmedabad.  One SEZ will be dedicated to the pharmaceutical sector and the company already anticipates European and US companies to set up units there. An engineering SEZ is also planned adjacent to the pharma SEZ. The company has already acquired 600 acres of land for the SEZ initiatives.

JSW Steel keen to set up power plant in Jharkhand

JSW Steel is interested in setting up a 2000 MW power plant in Jharkhand, and a MOU with the state government would be signed according to the company's joint managing director B N Singh.

Meanwhile there has been good progress on the 10 million tonne steel plant to be set up by JSW Steel. The company has identified 9000 acres of land near Chandil as well as iron ore and coal deposits.

General Motors to locate new plant in Maharashtra

American auto giant General Motors is to locate its second plant in India in Maharashtra. The company is to sign an MOU with the Maharashtra Government soon. The plant is believed to be at the Talegaon Industrial Estate and MIDC has reserved a 300 acre site for GM. The location choice is based on the availability of skilled workforce in the Pune area and the existence of other auto and auto ancillary facilities in the region.

ONGC gets environmental clearance for methane plant in Gujarat

Samsung to decide on second manufacturing plant in India

Samsung Electronics is evaluating plans for a second manufacturing plant in India that may entail an investment of $150 million. The company is experiencing rapid growth in India with revenue targeted to cross $2 Billion by 2008. The southern states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are being considered as the location for the new plant.
