The NH-45 Extn. (Dindigul – Theni Section) is the recently declared National Highway and is having lot of stray patches, cracks due to heavy traffic movement. The worn-out stretch serves as a link between important National Highways NH-7 and NH-49 Extn (Madurai to TN/Kerala Border). This is of tourist importance and traffic is quite high. Therefore, it was found necessary to improve the riding quality of this stretch.

Earlier in the month, the Minister had approved Special Repair Works from km 87/00 to km 93/00 and from km 104/00 to km 109/00 of NH 45 A at Parangipettai and Bhuvanagiri-Chidambaram Section respectively in Cuddalore District in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 598.63 lakh. Villupuram-Pondy-Nagapattinam road is one of the important National Highways running along the Eastern coast of Tamil Nadu connecting important Pilgrimages centers in Tamil Nadu.

The stretch from km 87/00 to km 93/00 and from km 104/00 to km 109/00 is having lot of stray patches, cracks due to heavy traffic movement and heavy unprecedented flood in November 2005. Moreover, the stretch was badly damaged during Tsunami in 2004. Due to this, the vehicular traffic on this road faces much hardship during journey and therefore needs immediate repairs.

An amount of Rs. 254.06 lakh has also been sanctioned for Special Repair Works from km 16/0 to km 25/0 of NH 49 extn. (Madurai kamarajar University-Karumathur in Madurai District). NH-49 Extension is an important road with very high density traffic which connects the Temple city of Madurai and Harbour city of Cochin. This road also connects the historical and holy place of Rameswaram. Similarly, an amount of Rs. 419.31 lakh has also been approved for Improvement of Riding Quality from km 25/00 to km 35/00 of NH-49 Ext (Karumathur-Pottalpatti in Madurai District) in the State.
