Dadri Power project to be established at all cost | INRnews

Lucknow, November 12, 2006 - In a significant move to make Uttar Pradesh self-sufficient in power in three years, the State Government today entered into an agreement with the private sector for purchasing power. With co-operation from the private sector three units with installed capacity of 1,930 mw would start generation by the year 2010 to make power available to consumers at cheep rates.

The required memoranda of understanding (MoU) were signed between the State Government and three prominent industrialists at the Chief Minister's residence at Kalidas marg here today. Addressing the gathering, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav said that India would not become a super power by 2020 without an all round development of Uttar Pradesh. He said the State Government formulated an effective energy policy giving priority to farmers and power, which facilitated partnership with the private sector.

Mr. Yadav said that the ambitious power project at Dadri would be installed despite hurdles. He alleged that the Central Government was getting established power stations in other States from its own resources, but was reluctant in supplying gas to U.P. for the Dadri project. The Chief Minister said that the 600 mw-Roza power project in Shahjahanpur would cost Rs. 2,641 crore and completed by 2010. He said the cost of per unit generation of power would be around 2.15 paise. He said Rs. 1,978 crore would be the cost of Pauri Garhwal hydroelectric project being constructed by G.V.K. group.

According to Mr. Yadav, Anpara C is the first project in the country being entrusted to the private sector through competitive bidding. The 1000 mw-Anpara C would be constructed by the Lanco group at an estimated cost of Rs. 10,500 crore. The cost of generation of power was expected to be Rs. 1.91 paise per unit after the completion of the project by 2010.

Speaking on the occasion the president of UPDC Mr. Amar Singh MP, said that the Centre should desist from politicking on the issue of supplying gas for the Dadri project. He said the issue would be raised in the Parliament during its forthcoming session. The Power Minister Mr. Shivpal Singh Yadav described today's power agreement as a 'golden opportunity' for the development of the State.

Mr. Anil Ambani, prominent industrialist, said that today's agreement had been possible owing to the entrepreneur-friendly atmosphere created by the State Government. Mr. L. Madusudan Rao of the Lanco group and Mr. G.V.K. Reddy said that full transparency would be observed in the running of Anpara C and Pauri Garhwal project respectively.

The Chief Secretary Mr. N. C. Bajpai said that the State was moving ahead to become self-sufficient in the power sector under the leadership of the Chief Minister and the efforts being made by Mr. Amar Singh.
