Ashok Leyland to set up auto manufacturing unit in Pant Nagar, Uttaranchal | INRnews

Chennai, November 7, 2006 : Hinduja Group flagship Ashok Leyland announced its plans to set up a vehicle manufacturing unit in Uttaranchal. An investment of over Rs 1,000 crores will create vehicle assembly and cab facility to produce 25,000 vehicles annually, which will be stepped to 40,000 vehicles eventually. About 200 acres of land has been identified in Pant Nagar for this purpose. The unit will create employment for 3,000 people.

“This unit will strengthen our presence in Northern India which already contributes nearly a quarter of our sales. The development of Uttaranchal as an auto hub made our selection easier” said Mr R Seshasayee, Managing Director, explaining the rationale for selecting the site. The investments will enjoy excise duty exemption and income tax exemption / concession for five / ten years.

Eight out of ten metro state transport buses in India are from Ashok Leyland. At 70 million passengers a day, Ashok Leyland buses carry more people than the entire Indian rail network. Ashok Leyland offers a wide range of products from 18-seater to 82-seater double decker buses, from 7.5 tonne to 49 tonne in haulage vehicles, from numerous special application vehicles to diesel engines for industrial, marine and genset applications. For over five decades, Ashok Leyland has been the technology leader in India's Commercial vehicle industry, moulding the country's commercial vehicle profile by introducing technologies and product ideas that have gone on to become industry norms.
