State government puts a brake on collection of property tax in new city areas | INRnews

Ahmedabad, October 11, 2006: The Gujarat state government has asked the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation not to go ahead with the collection of Property Tax in the areas that have been recently included into the city. This follows protests from people who claim that the Tax leived by the AMC was much higher than what they used to pay earlier.

The Corporation had issued to Tax bills to people of seven Nagarpalika and 13 gram panchayat areas included in Ahmedabad. In a communication to AMC the state government has said that the issue of the Property Tax and long pending abolition of Octroi Duty will be taken up together and until than the drive should be stopped.
