New hotels planned for Mumbai

Mumbai, October 6, 2006: A number of new hotels are planned for Mumbai to cater to the increasing demand from both domestic and international visitors to the country's commercial capital.

ITC Welcomgroup is planning a 5-star hotel in either Central or North Mumbai and is already evaluating alternatives. This project is part of a Rs.1,500 crore expansion drive by the company in India.

Indian Hotels is to build a 200-room hotel near the Santacruz airport on the site that originally housed the Taj Flight Kitchen. The hotel is to open by end 2008.

Film star Mithun Chakraborty has reportedly finalised a deal to purchase land in Andheri East for a five-star hotel. His Monarch hotels is also planning hotels in Goa and plans to go public at the right time to raise funds.

Pune’s Pride Group of Hotels is looking for land between Andheri and Malad, to construct a 120-room five-star hotel to be opened by the beginning of 2008.
