IT major TCS to invest Rs. 1,500 crore for new facilities in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, October 16, 2006: IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to invest Rs.1,500 crore to create new facilities in Tamil Nadu over the next three years.

TCS plans to make Chennai its largest center over a period of time, replacing Mumbai where it is headquartered now.The company is investing close to Rs. 1,200 crore in Chennai's Siruseri Industrial park to create its largest facility with a seating capacity of 23,000 people. The facility is located on an 80-acre site on Chennai's IT Corridor (Old Mahabalipuram road). The first module of the Siruseri development will be ready by April 2007 according to company officials.TCS also plans to invest close to Rs.80 crore for expansion of it's other facilities in Chennai.

Coimbatore is another city slated for expansion. TCS plans to invest Rs.120 crore for a new development centre in Coimbatore to be completed in 18 months time. The facility is located on a 5-acre plot and is expected to seat 2,000 people. TCS already has a presence in Coimbatore with an SME engineering centre of excellence located there.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi has asked TCS to consider expansion to other cities in the state including Tirunelveli and Tiruchi.
