Cabinet approves Rs 41,210 crore project to upgrade National Highways | INRnews

New Delhi, October 05, 2006 - The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today gave its approval for undertaking six laning of 6500 km of National Highways comprising 5700 km of Golden Quadrilateral and balance 800 km of other sections of National Highways under NHDP V at a cost of Rs.41,210 crore (Rs.35,692 crore from private sector and the balance amount of Rs.5,518 crore as viability gap, cost of land acquisition, utility shifting, consultancy etc to be met by Government).

The projects are to be taken up on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) mode following a Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) pattern with a maximum of 10% Viability Gap Funding (VGF).

Upgradation of existing road will improve traffic safety and provide faster movement of vehicles with improved riding quality and time.  This will lead to reduction in vehicle operating cost and significant reduction in fuel consumption for the vehicle resulting in energy conservation.

The cost per km of NHDP V projects is estimated at Rs.6.34 crore per km comprising Rs.5.78 crore per km for construction and Rs 0.56 crore per km for land acquisition, utilities, consultancy etc.
