Pune to house new Volkswagen plant
The city of Pune has bagged a major manufacturing project - auto major Volkswagen is to locate its new car plant at Chakan outside the city. The company has been given approval for 400-acres of land for the manufacturing site to be handed over by November.
In a major coup for the Maharshtra Government, Volkswagen has chosen the state as the destination for its investment. A large factor was the speed with which the government moved to identify land - Volkswagen would like to start production by end of next year.
Volkswagen is likely to invest over Rs. 2,500 crores in the project.
