Calica group, Pune firm to start IT parks in Gujarat | INRnews

Ahmedabad, September 01, 2006 : One more local developer is all set to join the IT park bandwagon. Calica Buildcon group plans to set up its facility near Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway under the brand name Third Eye. The group has approached the state government for acquiring SEZ status for the same.

Amrish Patel, chairman of Calica said, "We are planning to set up IT facility in the state however, we would not like to comment on it before we get a nod from the centre for SEZ status." Third Eye will be spread in about 35 acres and the group plans to pump in about Rs 150-200 crore for setting up the IT facility, according to sources close to the development. Calica has been into housing business and this will be their first venture into IT, sources further said.

To catch on with the ongoing opportunities in developing IT parks in the state, many local builders are eyeing to set up their facilities. If the proposals fructify, this will be the first venture the builders to log in on to IT park development.

The state IT department officials claim that there is little land available with them on the SG Highway area to allocate for IT parks. Also there will soon be a ceiling on the number of IT parks to be granted SEZ status by the Centre, sources said while adding that the national players will prefer to tie up with local real estate players.

Local players like J P Infrastructure, Ganesh Housing and Agarwal Estate Organisers are planning to set up IT parks in the state. Pune based Vascon Engineering group is also mulling the options of setting up IT park in the state. The group is also in talks with private developers for a JV, according to government sources. Vascon may also go in for setting up IT park independently the estimated investment of which could go as high as Rs 300-400 crore, sources further said.

Top state government officials including the state IT department today met to foward the proposal for SEZ status to the Centre. This includes Ganesh Housing's 'Million Minds', K Raheja Corp's 'Mindspace' and a Bio Tech park by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation. "We have decided to foward three proposals for acquiring IT SEZ status from the Centre. This includes Raheja group's Mindspace, the work of which has already begus near Koba, Ganesh Housing's proposed park near Nirma and GIDC's Bio-Tech park near Savli," said Raj Kumar, secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat.
