New airport in Navi Mumbai
The government is likely to initiate construction of a new airport to meet Mumbai's growing traffic demands. While the exact location has not yet been determined, it is likely to be in Navi Mumbai, close to the SEZs under development there.
The government is awaiting a report from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), and hopes to finalise bid documents by end of the year. The airport would be built by a private partner on terms and conditions similar to the Hyderabad and Bangalore airport projects.
