Gujarat promotes itself as IT destination

Gujarat is attracting new investments in IT, thanks to government backing of the state as a cost-effective IT hub. Over 40 companies, including Microsoft and TCS are already present at Creative Infocity, set up in 2000, with more IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies coming in.

Creative Infocity is gearing up to meet the influx by building another tower at the campus with plans to erect three more in the next few years with an investment of about Rs.3.5 crore each. Besides, more real estate is being acquired for IT parks by developers. 93 acres of land at Koba has been earmarked for an IT park called Mindspace. DLF, L&T and the Kolkata-based Infinity group also have plans to establish more IT centres in Gujarat.

The approval in principle, of a proposal for a Rs.2-billion IT SEZ to be jointly developed by Team Pro and BRG groups near Vadodara has also galvanized hopes for Gujarat as a viable IT hub.
