85 km of elevated corridors for Delhi
The Public Works Department (PWD) is planning to set up seven elevated corridors in Delhi to ease congestion on the Ring Road. All the corridors put together are expected to have a length of almost 85 km.
According to estimates, the Ring Road is likely to reach its maximum traffic handling capacity in 5-6 years. The elevated corridor project, expected to cost a few thousand crores, is expected to ease traffic jams on the Ring Road , in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games. In addition, a number of other flyovers and underpasses as well as a six-lane road over the Barapullah drain are also planned for completion before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
